Rest day

Saturday, March 6th, 2010

It was really hard, staying indoors and off the bikes today. The first brush of 40° on a sunny day sure was tempting, but I needed a rest. Badly.

The new commute to the Arnett Branch is about twice the distance as the the ride to Sully Branch, and three times the distance as [...]

Coming soon…

Sunday, February 14th, 2010

New job and new bike. It’s a longer piece, but you’ll be done before either one happens.

New job

Problem One: I’ve wanted more hours at work ever since I became a clerk four years ago. I’m scheduled for only 12 hours a week at Winton Branch, and four hours a week at Sully Branch. [...]

Bikes 2, Reading chair 0

Sunday, December 27th, 2009

When I first toured this apartment, it was full of other people’s stuff. And the other people. So I didn’t get a chance to do more than get an impression of it.

In my mind, the back wall of the living room would hold the bikes and bike stuff, and the front wall had [...]

First bread

Sunday, December 27th, 2009

It’s been years since I had a decent kitchen—decades perhaps. Thinking about it, I don’t think I ever had a kitchen where I was really satisfied. Now I do.

I’d have taken this apartment anyway, but I nearly wet myself with glee when I first saw the kitchen. Right from the [...]

Yikes!

Sunday, October 25th, 2009

Nearly a month has passed since our last visit. However, not much news to pass on.

I got my first cold of the season out of the way. Unfortunately, it was in progress on Columbus Day, which meant I missed out annual Leaf-Peepers Century ride to Letchworth.

Last year I was just getting over a [...]

New digs

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009

At just over two weeks in my new apartment, I’m a happy man.

While not quite as large as I thought it was, the new place is larger in the right places. Before, my largest room was the bedroom. It was also my least-used room.

Here the bathroom has a full-sized tub. I have two closets, [...]

Moving in the morning

Sunday, August 30th, 2009

A little more than 12 hours from now, and the moving truck will arrive. Then it’s off to the new apartment.

Plates, post and pans, and my computer systems are all that remain to be packed. I’m right to the edge with boxes. I may have to unpack plastic stuff from the kitchen [...]

Big hairy monsters

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

At T-minus 12 days and counting, packing to move is going well. I’ve focused on the big hairy monsters first. Those being the things I really didn’t want to have to go through, sort and pack. I have three of the four done. The last one is my basement storage area. [...]

Moving at work and at home

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

August’s theme is going to be moving.

The Sully Branch Library is moving across the park to the newly expanded Ryan Center at School 33. The old building will be torn down and replaced with a ball diamond.

Plans are to close the branch at the end of this week. We’ll pack stuff, the movers [...]

Dodged a bullet

Friday, April 24th, 2009

The City libraries were closed today for staff “Convocation” It’s a big, all-day meeting for all staff. One of the things the Director addressed right at the start was budget.

It seems the projected 22% cut, whittled down to 15% is going to be only 8%. No jobs will be lost, no hours [...]
