Sweet Sixteen

Sixteen years ago today I registered the domain name brucew.com. The only reason I mark the date today was that I had to pay my domain name renewal. Otherwise it would have slipped away, forgotten.

It wasn’t always a blog. I don’t think blogs had been invented yet. WordPress was still five or six years in the future. I made the site the old-fashioned way, with a text editor and FTP. Roll your own HTML.

It wasn’t always mainly about bikes. I hadn’t been on a bike in decades, and wouldn’t be for another eight years.

It was only a year or two ago that I took down all the pages from 1998 to 2004. They’d passed their sell-by date and had lost their relevancy.

Things change and move on.

Bruce, you are the only person I know from those pioneering days 16 years ago who still posts regularly (well, more or less regularly) – that is quite an impressive achievement. I don’t visit your site as often as I might (as you can see, I’m only reading this entry about a month after it was posted), but it’s good to see that you’re still going strong.

I can’t say that I have much interest in cycling, but the Tour de France starts here in Leeds this July, and goes right past the end of our road. So I’ll certainly turn out to watch that.
