Big hairy monsters
At T-minus 12 days and counting, packing to move is going well. I’ve focused on the big hairy monsters first. Those being the things I really didn’t want to have to go through, sort and pack. I have three of the four done. The last one is my basement storage area. That’ll get tackled tomorrow.
I’ve done some general packing in between big hairy monsters. Currently, the bathroom, bedroom and my desk are packed except for those things I’ll need during the next two weeks. Clothes will stay in the dresser, and hanging things will go in a wardrobe box on moving day.
Clothing, in fact, was one big hairy monster that didn’t materialize. I hate getting rid of clothes. Turns out, I cleaned-out pretty thoroughly last time. There’s very little excess, and I have plans for most of it.
As it stands right now, I may just move out with fewer boxes of stuff than I moved in with. I still have 14 bankers boxes, four banana boxes and six other boxes empty and available.
I’ve even started taking down shelving. And I’ve not been replacing groceries as I eat my way through the cupboards and the freezer. As I recall, quite a bit of what I moved-in here was groceries. While I still keep a well-stocked larder, I no longer stock enough for doomsday.
With another full day to pack tomorrow, plus two Sundays and another day next week, it looks like I’m in pretty good shape.
Meanwhile at Sully Branch…
I’m sure it was just miscommunication. Or someone had a senior moment.
As I recall, the original plan was one week for staff to pack, one week for the movers to pack books and move everything, and two weeks to unpack and organize.
More recently, management somehow seemed to think it would take just two days for the movers to box all the books and move everything around the corner to the new location. As of this evening, it looks more like a full week. And then maybe some.
As a result, I got two days off this week. There’s nothing I can do. My boss’s boss asked if I wanted to work at Lincoln Branch tomorrow, but it sounded an awful lot like make-work. When I asked it this was so, she said yes, it was. She felt bad that I wouldn’t get any hours this week.
I could really use the time to pack here at home so I told her that, while I appreciated the thought, we could save the taxpayers a few bucks and I could certainly use the time here, so we decided together that I’ll get tomorrow off too.
Just now I remembered I have some vacation time remaining. I wonder if I should use some of it, or save it for another time.
Anyway, the original goal was to have the library open in time for school, which opens a week early this year on September 2. Since they flooring hasn’t even been installed in the staff areas of the new building, somehow I think we won’t quite make it.
