Ten Parks Tour—Invitation

The Ten Parks Tour is a signature Rochester Bicycling Club ride. Two years ago, it was the club’s 40th Anniversary Ride. It represents Rochester and Monroe County in the New York Bicycling Coalition’s soon-to-be-launched I Love NY Biking web site.

This ride starts and ends at Cobbs Hill Park in the city and connects nine more east-side city, county and town parks.

From the hills of Mendon Ponds Park and Powder Mills Park in the south, to the beach at Durand-Eastman, the route winds through city neighborhoods, suburban streets and rural roads, with a final pass up the river through Seneca and Maplewood Parks and then through downtown Rochester.

The 58-mile route can be split into southern and northern portions for a shorter ride. There are several places to stop for refreshment along the way, or pack a sandwich in your trunk bag and enjoy lunch in one of the parks.

This year, I get to lead the Ten Parks Tour!

Meet me at Cobbs Hill Park by the pond and tennis courts (corner of Culver Rd and Norris Dr, just off I-490) at 8:45 on Sunday morning May 31. We roll at 9am sharp. Email me () for the map and cue sheet.

You don’t have to be a member of the Rochester Bicycling Club to ride with us. In fact, several other members of BikeJournal.com are coming to town to ride this ride.

Along with club members, there should be enough people so that you can find a group with your pace—whether hammerhead or smell-the-roses (TIP: The Maplewood Park Rose Garden) or somewhere in between (like me).

Make new friends! Discover new places! Join us on the Ten Parks Tour!

Weather Forecast

The four services I use differ on the details, but (as of Thursday morning) expect it to be partly cloudy (Imagine that! Clouds in Rochester!) breezy, warming from a overnight low in the mid-40s to a high in the lower-60s.

At minimum I suggest arm and knee warmers. Maybe a jacket and light tights for the morning until both you and the day warm up.
