The first annual Rochester Cobbs Hill Cyclocross race
I overslept and nearly didn’t make it to the race this morning. I was a half-hour from bed to starting gate of the 2007 Rochester Cobbs Hill Cyclocross race, sponsored by Full Moon Vista Bike & Sport.
I couldn’t miss it because I ride through Cobbs Hill Park all the time, and I ride with folks from Full Moon Vista all the time. Even with a stop at Starry Nites Café for a joe to go, I made it with just enough time to see Abby and Shana before their race started.
Cyclocross is an off-road bike race that’s a mix of cross-country and criterium racing. This is not mountain bike racing. It’s an older form of off-road race, popular in Europe for over a century. Most riders use bikes that have more in common with road race bikes than with mountain bikes.
Because of this race-bred durability, cyclocross bikes rank with touring bikes as the most commonly recommended road bike for commuting. My Portland combines the best features of both, having a cyclocross front end and touring rear end.
All add to this entry later. It’s late and I have a century to ride in the morning. Dinner would be nice to have too.
Life has interrupted. I will get back to this.
Meanwhile, Onno has posted his pics. Many are from different parts of the course. Some, from the same places I took some of mine. I wonder why we didn’t run into each other.
Jason of RocBike.com, who I did run into, has a few dozen of his photos posted as well.
JoeyMac, who I didn’t meet until this week’s TNUA, has a few photos posted on his Flickr account, including some of the climb up to (and the descent from) the the top of Cobbs Hill.
