Is it November yet?
After a week that was agreeably pleasant, and on the verge of outstanding for the end of November, today was the second of two 65°F (19°C) days in a row. Full sun yesterday, hazy, gauzy sun today, and no wind at all.
The best I could do yesterday was leave home a little early and cruise around a bit on the way to work, and did I the same on the way home.
Today, I rode in the same clothes I wore riding in July. It was wonderful.
I’d like to get another one or two like that in before the weather changes with the end of the month on Friday.
Friday they’re calling for snow and a high just above freezing. Saturday will not break freezing at all, and more snow.
So it looks like on Wednesday night I’ll be mounting my studded snow tires. That way, I can wear off all the slippery mold release on Thursday and begin the breaking-in process. Like studded car tires, studded bike tires have to be ridden gently for the first few miles to seat the studs properly.
I am both excited and saddened by this. These past few days I’ve felt as one with the bike. Part of it is due to the confidence I’ve built riding with TNUA. I ride differently now. Looser and less conservatively. This has increased the fun factor.
On the other hand, riding in the snow with studded tires promises to be a different kind of treat. What remain afraid of is how much (if at all) the studded snows will adversely effect ride, handling and rolling resistance in the dry.
Then again, maybe I’ll become such an expert at mounting tires, that it won’t really matter.

And here I thought you were basking in the warmth of the Gulf Stream.
Not to worry. Our December is set to get off to a fine, wintry start come Friday.
