Assortment of stuff
Like many gay men, I have more experience with death than others. However, death from HIV is a drawn-out affair so when it comes, it’s no surprise. I’ve known several people from the program who have died, but there was illness of a kind involved, so again, there was time to prepare. Even the occassional suicide or overdose comes as no real shocker.
At Friday’s meeting, the entire room went slack-jawed when it was announced that on Thursday, Wayne D. died suddenly, in his sleep of a heart attack. He was only 53 and had 26 years sober. There was no indication this was coming. He seemed plenty healthy and active.
This one is a little different. I’m dealing well with it. The feelings are different though, and so must be the strategies. I hope I can attend the services.
In the sleep department, it’s been just awful since I last wrote—which is to say, about normal for me. Although this week I had to move a lot of stuff around on my schedule and I didn’t go to the Friday the 13th party at all because I felt so rotten.
The holiday party at work went well, though. My chicken thing went over well—got several requests for the recipie—and I got a real, metal slinky in the grab bag. I was beat though. I’d spent the afternoon moving the reference section, and boy, those books are heavy.
I had a few other short subjects to mention, but afer inrruptions fo rdinner and a phone call, I can’t remember them. Maybe another time.

It’s always shocking when someone dies suddenly. A lot of emotions are played out. 53 is so young, too. hug
