Life in the unusual lane
While waiting for clients to get back to me, and with the rain meaning I can’t do laundry, (well, can’t dry it) I have a bit of extra time on my hands this morning.
IMing with CBC this morning, it hit me again how unusual my reaction was to an event last week. The Co-chair of Presbytery’s Administration Committee called Thursday to ask if I had time to meet after lunch. That committee is in charge of the web site and computers, amongh other things.
“No problem,” I said. And, other than briefly wondering why he’d drive 45 miles to meet for five minutes rather than use the phone, I went on about my day. Actually, I concluded that since he’s retired and it was a nice day and all, gas prices be damned, he just wanted to take a ride.
Anyway, that’s the unusual part. Sure it sounds normal enough. But what I didn’t realize until late that afternoon, is that my head didn’t go to that “Oh shit, I’m in trouble now” place.
Time was when this would have caused all sorts of discombobulation, including, but not limited to, taking an inventory of my stuff so I could pack in a hurry. Never happened. In fact, it surprised me when he walked into my office. I’d forgotten completely about it.
It was nice. And very weird. I remember wondering why that didn’t happen. I’m just so inexperienced with not being in trouble—or feeling like I’m in trouble.
Anyway, all he wanted to to say everyone’s really pleased with the new web site, and, oh, by the way, how much would you charge to take over the in-house server and LAN administration? And to prep the old PCs for donation?
