In brief…
It would be a lot easier if I could forget the advice and hard lessons learned about keeping code and data separate on one’s PC. And, I suppose, if I had fewer than six hard disks in it. On the other hand, I’m becoming a whiz at reinstalling Windows XP and Fedora Core 3 Linux. Thank heavens for my trusty Red Hat 9 box. And webmail.
Not all my time lately is spent at the keyboard. Over the weekend, a sponsee wanted to go to the Lilac Festival. I suggested Wednesday since we both have off. Spent a couple of hours there today. Full sun, about 65 degrees. I got “ma’amed” walking through the vendor area. Some guy selling satellite TV was handing out brochures. I’d just passed by and heard, “Ma’am! Do you have cable TV?” I turned around. “Oh sorry.”
It was cool. It beat being called sir. That makes just me feel old.
Anyway, the lilacs are in fine shape this year. Well worth the trip if you’re in this area. In recent year’s they’ve been past prime for the festival. They’re just about right this year.
And I saw the Japanese cherry trees in full bloom for the first time. No wonder they’re nuts over them in Japan. Much different and far more beautiful than our local cherry trees. I wasn’t so keen on this year’s design in the pansy bed. It was sort of a geometric thing. Lots of triangles. It looked like it wants to be a corporate logo when it grows up. Something like the HSBC logo. Still, the flowers themselves were nice.
The Lamberton Conservatory was instructive for my sponsee. He’s been whining that all his orchids have dropped their blooms. Only two were blooming inside the conservatory. If the pros are having trouble this year, I can only hope he goes easier on himself.
Yo! Von! Did you SMS me tomight? I was on the phone with CBC and got an unsigned SMS from someone in 704. (Not your home number and I can’t remember where I put your cell number.) I haven’t been able to figure out how to send an SMS, let alone figuring out the bastardization of English that goes along with SMS, (also why I don’t IM or chat online). Last I knew, Ur was a city in Mesopotamia. Besides, it was way too late to try replying. And whoever sent the message was kind enough to tell me they were going to bed. So that let me off the hook.
In case it ever comes up, like you’re on Jeopardy or something, there are roughly 1170 some odd pennies in an 11.5 oz coffee can full of pennies. They’ve got this coin counting machine—sort of a reverse vending machine—at the grocery store. Actually, it’s more like a slot machine, only with bulk input and no fruit reels. You put in a bunch of coins and it pays out at 91%. Kinda tight by Las Vegas standards though.
I took my penny can in on Monday. It spat out all the Canadian ones, and after subtracting their 9% take, it gave me a slip for $10.60. So that’s somewhere south of 1200 coins. If you want more exact results, you can count the damned things next time.

Yep, it was me
I was texting someone else and I saw your number in my address book in my phone (which is where I put your number. ahem) and thought I would say “Hi!” I’m a dork that way. Texting is fun!
