Busy weekend ahead
Something that always leaves me shaking my head is how much the Presbyterians seem to like me. The Presbytery of Genesee Valley is my oldest, steadiest and most-loyal client. Last year, I started doing work for the neighboring Presbytery of Geneva.
Anyway, every year I do 20 minutes or so at the new minister orientation. I’m on the Ministry Team for Office Technology. I’ve done seminars for the Resource Center (with another one scheduled for May) and this weekend I’m doing my second “working lunch” for Church Leadership Development Day.
You do recall that I’m not even a Christian, right?
Well, I had no idea what to present or what people would be interested in, so I opted to call it “Web Geeks’ Lunch Roundtable Discussion”. A half-dozen people signed up, which is a half-dozen more than I expected.
Other than having a laptop and projector, I still have no idea where this will go. All I’ve decided on is to grab some books, take some selections from my bookmarks, ask someone to open with prayer, ask for topics, eat our boxed lunches, and wing it.
Since this is held in a small city to the left of Rochester, I’ll have to catch a ride out in the morning with the Interim Executive Presbyter. I’ve been drafted to help with setup and registration, to take attendance at each of the morning sessions, and to roam around taking pictures.
I’ll probably also have to help clean up and pack stuff. My day will run from about 7:30 to the late afternoon, all for a 90 minute lunch and bull session.
Sunday morning is server upgrade day. No matter how well things go on the test server, I’m always nervous about doing upgrades on the production server. I’ve scheduled three hours of downtime for what should take 15 or 20 minutes.
In addition to the regular full server backup which is run every Sunday morning, Saturday night I’ll be doing a filesystem dump, just in case. If the whole thing goes to hell, I’ll have backups made two different ways. And there’s enough in the checkbook to pay for engineers if need be.
I really should be doing laundry right now in preparation for this weekend. But it’s windy and snowing which makes me reluctant to make the several trips required outside and around to the back of the building.
I can’t put it off to tomorrow though, because I have to go to Kinkos to print new business cards and pick up some FedEx envelopes. Then grocery shopping, banking, post office, work and AA meeting.
Maybe I should start with a nap…
