Ulterior motives

I went to the meeting tonight for one reason, and one reason only. To see my new little heartthrob.

It was difficult getting to talk with him after the meeting. A woman came up to comment about something I’d said. Whatever that was. A sponsee is having some sort of crisis and wanted to meet tomorrow. And of course, all the other guys swarming on the new meat.

Persistance paid off and we talked program stuff for a bit. I was giving my card to my sponsee who didn’t remember my new address and two came out of my wallet. My business card for some reason, not my personal card.

Rather than put it back into my wallet, I gave one to my new little heartthrob. He took it, nervously slipping it in and out of the slot in his key ring (Did I mention he drives a Mercedes?) while we discussed how he drank and what strategies might be best for making it through the first days and weeks of recovery.

My sponsor swung by to say, “The boat’s leaving, are you on it?”

“Yeah, yeah, I’ll be right there.” Turning back to the new guy, “So what to you do for a living?”

“Web hosting and web design.”

“Oh my god! I’ve just given my card to a competitor!” A beat. “Or a collaborator. Call me.” [As if he couldn’t figure that out for himself given I was wearing my evolt.org jersey]

Gorgeous, long hair, web geek. And I thought I was swooning before…
